This site is currently under construction. It is owned and maintained by Houston, TX professional harmonica player, blues recording artist, and veteran harmonica instructor Sonny Boy Terry. We hope to have this newly registered site up and running within the next month. Please continue reading to see what we currently have to offer plus see what the future holds.
It's primary purpose is serve the Houston region for those wishing to learn to play, network and explore the virtues of harmonica. Here, in the coming months online, by video and stype at www.houstonharmonicalessons.com you will actually learn directly from a real master and someone who has achieved a certain level of fame playing harmonica. Whether it's blues, rock, folk, country, or simply learn campfire songs to play for your own personal enjoyment, Sonny Boy Terry, with over 30 years of performing professionally and 25 years of teaching experience, can help. The young, kids, older, retired, beginners, intermediate, or just wanting to pick up a few new licks, Terry has tutored all kinds of people from all walks of life. No reading music is required - you learn by reading simply tabs! You just have to spend a little time practicing and be inspired to learn.
For now, there are several paths you may take to learn how to play:
1. You may take private lessons from Terry's home in Spring Branch here in Houston getting one on one attention once weekly or bi-weekly.
Four introductory half hour lessons are $80.oo due at the first lesson. If you practice, at the end of those four lessons, you will be playing simple harmonica songs. Plus, you will be exposed to more knowledge about music and harmonica than you could have ever imagined. You will learn some basic techniques such as vibrato and tremola to make your songs sound pretty.
2. You may also sign up for Sonny Boy Terry's mentorship program and recieve a 20 percent discount for buying a 10 hour block.
So rather than pay 400.oo, you only pay 320.oo for 10 one hour lessons. This is an incredible program for those wanted to get serious. You are taught lots of blues, rock, country, folk and gospel techniques that translate into all musical styles. Terry shows you train whistles, tongue blocking, two hole shakes, bending notes, creating consonants and vowels voicings. You learn real harmonica songs, like Blackfoot's Train Train, Amazing Grace, and Blowin' in the Wind.
3. Finally, if you live in the League City, TX area you also have the option taking a harmonica class at the College of the Mainland's League City Learning Center for thier continuing education program.
This is an excellent cost saving way to get started and see where you want to go with it. It's a typical classroom setting, except here you learn harmonica. All you need is a Pocket pal harmonica in the key of C and the desire to learn. Many Sonny Boy Terry students have enriched thier lives through music by taking this class. It's a three hour class so you get a huge bang for your buck. Even if you can play a little, alot or can't play a lick, this is a fun, rewarding, inexpensive class to share your love for harmonica with.
